ALPHARM: THE VOLUME OF THE PHARMACY MARKET SEGMENT OF THE MARKET GREW BY 11.5% IN FEBRUARY 2017

The volume of the pharmacy market segment amounted to 88.7 billion rubles in Russia, in February 2017, increasing by 11.5% compared with February of the previous year, according to the analytical company AlphaRM. However, due to currency fluctuations, February’s growth compared to previous February amounted to 47% in US dollars and 54% in European currency. In February 2017, compared to February 2016, the average purchase amount rose by 9% and amounted to about 385 rubles.

 The largest share in sales (33%) falls to the Central Federal District, followed by the Volga Federal District with 18% and the Siberian and North-Western Federal Districts with 12%. In the Central Federal District, Moscow and Moscow region are leading with 14 and 6% respectively. In Volga district, the leadership is shared by the Nizhny Novgorod region, the republics of Tatarstan and Bashkortostan with shares of about 2.5%. In the Siberian Federal District, the Novosibirsk region stands out with 2.2% and the Krasnoyarsk Territory with 1.9%. In the North-West district, St. Petersburg leads with a share of 6.5%.

The number of pharmacy institutions in Russia increased by 4% compared to the same period in 2016 and amounted to about 60,200 sales outlets, but compared to December 2017, the number of pharmacies slightly decreased. For the first time since April 2016, the number of opening pharmacy institutions declined in early2017, due to the consolidation of the market and the general decline in the number of individual pharmacies, according in AlphaRM,. The largest share of pharmacy outlets falls to the Central Federal District (29%), followed by the Volga District and Siberian Federal Districts with 21% and 13% respectively.
