ALPHA RESEARCH AND MARKETING: THE RUSSIAN PHARMACEUTICAL MARKET GREW BY 7.5% IN 2016

The total volume of the pharmaceutical market in Russia, according to the analytical company Alpha Research and Marketing, totaled 1.13 trillion rubles in 2016, an increase of 7.5% in national currency over the previous year.

The capacity of the commercial segment of the pharmacy market (medicinal products, dietary supplements, additional pharmacy range) reached 1.04 trillion rubles in 2016, which is 7.2% higher than the previous year.

With the growth of the market of medicinal products and the pharmacy market, the number of pharmacies continues to grow too, with an increase of 4% compared to the end of 2015. The biggest increase in the number of pharmacy outlets was shown by Samara pharmacy chain Implozia, Moscow's Rigla and Perm’s Planet of Health, with growth rates of 22%, 21% and 20%, respectively. The leading position in terms of the number of outlets belongs to Implozia, Rigla is second, and Group 36.6 is third, followed by the chains Pervaya Pomosch I Raduga and Planeta Zdorovia.

The volume of the state segment of the pharmaceutical market grew by 4.4% in 2016 and amounted to 350 billion rubles. However, the volume of purchases on High-cost ICD drugs program decreased by 10%, but was compensated by the growth of sub-segments of the regional or  federal benefits and target programs (10%, 9% and 14%, respectively ), while the volume of shipments of medicinal products in health facilities remains almost the same (+ 2%).
